Poem for St Clare’s day: Marian Grey

Early in the morning when I am out

Wondering what life is about

Drinking deep of all around

Before day’s busy-ness begins

To tell again man-unkind’s sins

We must respect our Brothers Sun

Taking care during summer fun

Using solar power

As much as we possibly can

Respecting the over-all plan

Yes, we visited Sister Moon

Studying the stars is a boom

Exploring galaxies

Making use of the elements

And honouring these sacraments

Our Sister Water can do harm

When we rebel against her charm

Also our Brother Fire

Needs to be handled with such care

Or he wreaks havoc everywhere

Thus damaging our Mother Earth

Whose bounty cares for us from birth

Providing all we need

Enough for everyone to share

If only, Lord, each would take care

So honour and respect instead

Encourage sharing daily bread

In all we think or do

Cheerfully spreading steadfastness

Compensating man’s meeklessness

Let Sister Death be lived to blend

A continuation not end

What we are forever

Blessing and blessed your will be done

Followed by each and everywhere

At eventide I can reflect

How what I said and did affect

The rest of God’s creation

Joining the whole in thanks and then

In unison saying “Amen”
